The Pledge

Affirming that the entire creation is grounded in the Transcendent Mystery, and that the key to our ultimate destiny as creatures of God has been revealed through Jesus the Anointed One who is for us the Completed Human, Incarnate Logos, and Master of our sacred Path.

Recognizing that this fragile earth, our island home, is a gracious gift made to us from God, and that we are called to cherish, nurture and provide loving stewardship of all its resources, creatures and peoples.

Knowing that life itself is sacred and a sacrament, and that we are each invited to the joyous responsibility of realizing and expressing the luminous Presence of the Divine Love and Energy which exists at the very heart of every created thing.

Understanding that human beings separated from or ignorant of this Reality become alienated, self-destructive and spiritually exiled in a world which they make uninhabitable, I make the following pledge:

  1. As a student of the wisdom of Jesus, and follower upon his spiritual path I claim citizenship in the Kingdom of Heaven which he proclaimed, and commit myself to the journey of spiritual awakening and reorientation toward its central Mystery which is the divine Presence, my true home and destiny.

  2. Born as a child of this earth and as one of its offspring I declare myself to be a world citizen, fully committed to its peace and the well-being of all its creatures, rejecting the present world’s emphasis on strife, violence, competition and mass exploitation to meet either individual or collective ambitions.

  3. I commit myself to lead an ecologically sound life upon this planet refusing to toil endlessly to satisfy “needless needs,” and dedicate myself to lead a life of creative simplicity which will enable me to share my personal wealth with the poor and needy of the earth.

  4. I commit myself to join with others in the reshaping of this world’s institutions in order to bring about a more just global society in which all people have full access to the resources needed for their physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development.

  5. I commit myself to occupational and vocational accountability, and in so doing I will seek to avoid the creation of products which cause harm to others and destroy this earth and its inhabitants either physically, psychologically or spiritually, and instead seek to bring the multiple dimensions of wisdom as its greatest resource.

  6. I affirm the divine gift of my entire being: body, soul and spirit, made in the image of God, and I dedicate myself to cooperate with God in its growth and transformation, joining the created and the uncreated energies of heaven and earth into a mature and unified person.

  7. Knowing that my own individual destiny does not stand alone but is webbed to the whole creation, I commit myself to work for the well-being and transformation of the universe and of all its creatures which God has determined to redeem and restore, and to the building up of the spiritual Body of Humanity.

  8. As a world citizen I commit myself to continually examine my relations with all other beings; my proximate and cosmic “neighbors”, and to endeavor to relate honestly, morally, and lovingly to all those around me, rejecting the pursuit of personal power and influence and the desire to control others for either personal or “noble” ends.

  9. As a responsible participant in the communion of Christian faith and in the world community of all sacred traditions, I commit myself to personal, spiritual renewal through worship, prayer, meditation and study, building up the spiritual Body of Humanity without attempting to exploit others, coerce heir allegiance, or manipulate their consciences, but by respecting the intimate work of God’s Spirit in the experience of every human being.

  10. As a divine son or daughter, I dedicate myself to the vocation and trust which in honor God has conferred upon me to assist in the ages-long process of reconciliation and restoration, bringing all things to their perfection in the joyous realm of the Kingdom of God through the principles of co-inherent love, exchange, substitution, forgiveness, the conversion of energies, the bearing of burdens, and ultimate restitution.
